Currently discussed guiding principles:
• Providing focus and attention on the profession and practice of counseling for the state of Iowa
• Honoring the voices, views and perspectives of the membership of ACA of Iowa
• Utilizing technology to communicate information, facilitate business of the organization, and advocate for the profession
• Providing high quality professional development and education of counselors and counselors-in-training
• Facilitating collaborative relationships between and among specialty counseling organizations, student bodies, counselor education training programs, and other professional counseling-related professional organizations
• Facilitating positive transitions of counselors-in-training into the profession of counseling including mentoring and networking
• Providing vehicles for consultation and resources regarding ethical and legal issues in counseling (including Iowa law and licensure related concerns)
• Supporting advocacy efforts on behalf of the counseling profession
Current Needs: places and people for resources and answers (ex: ethics and licensure); need for active student membership and participation. Discussion around need for attention to students, counselors, and counselor educators affiliated with online programs.
